Few County Races On Tap for Primary Elections
Franklin County faces a sparse field as most offices have no opposition. County Clerk Laura Sutton and County Commissioners Leroy Wasmund and Albert Coffman drew challengers. Sheriff Rex Bowling Treasurer Marilyn Talbott and Register of Deeds Shertie Capper ran unopposed. Attorney Wendell Barker is the lone candidate for county attorney, replacing retiring Democrat Jim Clark who seeks the State House. Multiple township and precinct races fill out the filing slate with several write-ins possible.

The Supreme Court, in a 7-2 decision, nullified Alabama’s death penalty law for restricting juries to verdicts of guilty or not guilty and a separate death sentence.
