Lawmakers seek party primaries in Kansas districts
In the 12th district race incumbent Republican James Cubit faces Wes Worthington in a GOP primary with the winner to meet Democrat George Teagarden. The 13th district features Gerald Marten challenging Irving Niles, while the 15th district and 17th district have unopposed incumbents Marvin Barkis and Anita Niles respectively. Parallel to the elections, the Carter administration announced temporary residency for nearly 130,000 Cubans and Haitians, to allow six months for Congress to decide status under a proposed Cuban-Haitian Entrant classification, with limited welfare and work benefits.
