Ottawa and Topeka Post 1 split a doubleheader at Orlis Cox Field. Ottawa won 8-5 behind Jamie Waldy’s three RBI surge and Richard Ybarra’s strong pitching, while Topeka rallied to a 12-9 nightcap win. The teams combined for 36 hits and 19 errors in a second loosely played game.
George Scott starred for the Royals in Oakland, collecting hits and scoring three times including a second baseman score on a sacrifice fly. Kansas City blasted the A’s 9-2 as Scott continued his hot streak after joining from Boston.
Ottawa American Legion B team beat Harrisonville Missouri 4 to 1 on Wednesday night to notch their fifth win in six games. Evan Shaffer hit a leadoff home run in the third, Scott Thompson added a run scoring double, and Mark Dengel with Doug Crosby combined for a two hit shutout through four innings. Thompson and Shaffer led Ottawa with two hits each as nine runners were left on base and Harrisonville committed three errors in the fourth. Ottawa heads to Overbrook Friday for an 8 p.m. game and then plays a weekend doubleheader in Kansas City.
