The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports May CPI up three tenths to 124.7, meaning $12.47 buys $10 of base-period goods. Clothing and transportation led the gain, while Phase 2 controls continued at about 3.0 percent annualized, down from 4 percent earlier. wage coverage noted for about 50 million workers.
Kansas Selective Service Director Junior Elder announced 275 Kansas men will be called for pre induction physical examinations beginning July 3 with about 90 for the August draft. The large call exceeds the quota due to a new provision allowing induction orders to lead to reserve enlistment. Also notes wage gains, living costs, tax effects, and price shifts, including meat declines and fruit price rises.
Ransom Memorial Hospital trustees set July 26 at 3 p.m. for bid opening on the new two story hospital to be built west of the existing facility. Franklin County voters approved a $2.5 million bond in 1970. Plans must pass federal review due to Hill-Burton funds.
Philip Fredricks seventeen, Williamsburg, changed to critical by KU Medical Center spokesman after a fire Sunday at Champlin Service Station US-59 and John Brown Highway Princeton. Richard Foltz thirty five, Princeton, was also critical. Both were inside the station when the blaze started.

The 122 West 2nd Street building long used as a laundry is sold to Wassmer Clothing Co. at 202 South Main. Margaret E. Clark of 510 South Walnut was the seller. Purchase price not disclosed. John Wassmer said the purchase is an investment and the site may become a clothing store location.
Secretary Laird told the Senate committee there is no difference with the President over seeking approval of new U S weapons systems alongside the Moscow SALT accords.
