Ottawa home named Franklin County Heritage Home

The 1906 built residence at 832 S Cedar St Ottawa was designated a Franklin County Heritage Home joining 51 others since 1996. The couple James Deane and Diana Staresinic-Deane shared private spaces and Victorian elements as they preserve the house history and layout from its rental past.

Mid-America Nutrition seeks new director after long-time leader

Mid-America Nutrition Program Inc seeks an executive director after splitting with Martha Hagedorn-Krass who led since April 2016. Barbara Dailey, policy board chair, is interim director while a search continues, with ads posted and a committee formed. The non profit serves Meals on Wheels to six counties from Ottawa and Pleasanton sites, delivering over 100000 meals in 2015 with funding from government sources.

Reed Jailed in Vehicular Homicide Case at Ottawa University

Jordan Reed, 21, of Wichita, was sentenced by Franklin County District Judge Douglas P. Witteman to 12 months in county jail with six months suspended and six months to be served, followed by 12 months of supervised probation. The former Ottawa University football player was found guilty in February of vehicular homicide in the death of teammate Samuel Brazeal, 19, from a November 11, 2015 crash involving a 2005 Chevrolet pickup.
