Dairying A Family Project at the Garnett Farm
Mark Rockers Jr. milks 60 Holsteins with help from his children Chris Dan and Pegare in a 4-H dairy project. Dan and Chris joined five years ago through Berea Boosters 4-H. Peg joined three years ago. They have shown at Richmond Ottawa Salina Lane fairs and earned red and blue ribbons. They hope to expand to cows, not just heifers. Milk provides most riboflavin in diets, proving essential for growth and health.

Kansas farmers test irrigated soybeans against corn edge
A nine plot Kansas trial by central and west central farmers with K-State Extension found irrigated soybeans averaged 45.9 bushels per acre, far above a predicted state average of 26. Participants from multiple counties reported good weed control and lower costs for fertilizer, harvest, and storage compared with prior crops. Varieties Calland dominated, Williams used by one, with lodging minimal and potential for bed planting noted.
