McCurdy Selected for Cosmosphere Space Camp Scholarship
Kathryn McCurdy, daughter of Ted and Marilyn McCurdy of Ottawa, earned an AAUW scholarship to attend the Level 1 Future Astronaut Training Pro gram at the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson. The camp, Sunday through Friday, aims to promote girls in math and science and teach teamwork for a simulated space mission. Planners back day care use in C-2 zone change proposal

Kansas grants total 2.18 million for 87 day care providers
The Kansas SRS awarded 2.18 million in grants to 87 public and non profit child care providers, including two area centers Overbrook United Methodist Day Care Center with 20536 and Franklin County Child Care and Development Center with 16200 to expand services city schools Lincoln Eugene Field Central Heights and Appanoose. The awards stem from the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act 1990 Block Grant to boost access affordability and quality of care, now in year four of the Quality Set Aside program. Connie Hubbell called the grants a boost to thousands of children receiving quality care and noted the program’s administration by Income Maintenance Employment Preparation Services.

Garnett city commissioners adopt final plans for a doctor office complex northwest of the hospital. Anderson County Hospital Board will lease purchase the estimated 450000 construction tab via industrial revenue bonds with the hospital sub leasing to doctors. The agreement includes up to 25000 from the hospital to aid land costs. Grain prices end mixed and a 4 H foods show is set for Friday at the courthouse basement. Donations are sought for the Liberty Fest July 4 honoring Vietnam veterans.

Quake Hits Greek Port Town Killing Dozens
An earthquake struck a southwest Greece port city causing walls to collapse. At least 15 people were killed and 59 seriously injured. Nine Greek victims were found in a collapsed apartment building.
