Hospitalization Plan for Aged May Go to Vote in Congress

The House Ways and Means Committee weighs a optional hospitalization plan for the elderly as part of a broad Social Security and welfare package. It would cap benefits at 45 days and require the first day payment, differing from the administration proposal of up to 90 days and additional home care. An omnibus bill would couple the plan with old age retirement increases and broader health care incentives, likely funded by higher Social Security payroll taxes.
