Plans To Double Herd By Charles Hamilton On Dairy Ranch
Charles E. Hamilton of Williamsburgh operates a large Franklin County dairy and aims to raise his herd from about 330 Holstein heifers to around 600 cows. He plans to milk 50 Guernseys later to boost butterfat. His sister Irene Herron contributes 88 cattle and 320 acres. A typical day starts at 2 a.m. with milking, then feeding, field work, and a second milking around 2 p.m. He notes mud and weather as challenges but foresees concrete improvements as the herd grows.
