Franklin County Historical Society owns a postcard dated June 11 1915 showing Main Street bridge looking north as flood waters rise. The note warns of 3 inches of rain, river cresting about 20 feet, trains halted, and the bridge likely to be overtopped before morning.
The Lawrence Police Department will run a DUI saturation patrol Friday funded by the Kansas Department of Transportation. Extra officers will target motorists showing signs of impairment and other traffic violations. Drivers are urged to designate a sober driver to keep streets safer.
The Buck Bash festival sponsored by Buck U returns at 937 Bennett Road Ottawa from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. Highlights include the American Legion Riders Chapter 156 PassPort Ride, an arrow head and knife making display, barbecue, and live acoustic music by Lily B from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Steve Brodmerkle and Anita Dennis won the Garnett duplicate bridge match on June 6 in Garnett. Dave Leitch and Tom Williams finished second, while Peggy Carlson and Charles Carlson placed third. The Garnett Duplicate Bridge Club meets at 1 p.m. Wednesdays at the Garnett Inn in Garnett.
