Nigerian military crackdown quells Lagos protests by Abubakar regime
Nigerian security forces in Lagos fired and used tear gas to confront pro democracy demonstrators amid a five day old military government led by Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar. Protests by University of Lagos student Dele Alabi and others were met with arrests including Gani Fawehinmi and Dupe Abiola as crowds cheered him before his release on bond.
