U S officials view the deliveries as possibly scheduled rather than a crash effort to rebuild Egypt s shattered military power amid conflicting reports on Soviet intentions to arm Arab states. Some informants warn of threats to deliver massive new supplies unless Israel yields advances, while others say Soviet diplomats privately criticized the Arab defeat.
