Army Tightens Smoking Policy Across Army Offices
The Army will ban smoking in most offices bases and vehicles effective July 7, allowing local commanders to extend restrictions. The directive aims to make non smoking the norm in Army occupied spaces and to reduce health costs and illness among 781,000 soldiers and 450,000 civilian employees. Supervisors may designate smoking areas only if second hand smoke can be isolated to protect non smokers.

GSA seeks lower phone rates from regulators in 32 jurisdictions
The General Services Administration and the Defense Department urge state and district regulators in 31 states and D C to cut the 4 billion-dollar annual local phone bill. They argue current intrastate returns of 10.25 to 12 percent are too high given today’s economy and divestiture risks gone. Regulators in numerous states were lobbied to order immediate rate reductions to benefit residential customers.
