Steppan accuses Oregon man of farm loan scam in Kansas
Kansas Attorney General Robert T. Stephan charged Robert J. Wright with issuing at least five bogus United States Treasury Department Obligation Checks to financially strapped farmers. Wright claimed to act as trustee for the Evangelical Oregon Trust and offered to deed and lease back farms, with options to repurchase at a fraction of the value. Authorities say the checks are fake, void of federal backing, and violate state and federal law while Wright faces related suits in Oregon and Iowa.
