Hanway stone house near Lane preserved by local couple
New owners William and Nancy Sanders restored the Hanway property outside Lane, keeping original layout and stonework from 1879. The two story house features marble window shelves, porches, a walnut staircase, and a split two part plan. The site includes a former rock quarry that supplied stone for tombstones and a hilltop structure. Local lore recalls John Brown ties, runaways sheltered, and a once bustling quarry payroll of about 100 men.
