City Alters Move to Put DPS Drivers on Police Roles
DPS plans to cross train four drivers to perform police and fire duties, enabling breathalyzer testing, minor reports by phone, and fingerprinting. Two drivers focus on fire protection with added titles, including a PSO inspector for dilapidated buildings and a PSO field services lead for hydrant maintenance. All six will develop preplans for flammable materials and electrical mains while shifts extend 7 am to 8 pm.
