Used Properly KSU Study Exonerates Insecticides

Kansas State University scientists completed a nine year study in the Cedar Bluff Irrigation District west of Hays. They surveyed 80 percent of farmers and found 10,635 pounds of insecticides applied from 1960 to 1969. Organophosphates and carbamates were common and persisted mainly in aldrin and dieldrin. Deep soil and well tests showed minimal residues beyond 12 inches and drinking water traces were attributed to sampling contamination rather than actual contamination.
