Ottawa district sees positive impact from school finance reform
Kansas lawmakers passed a school finance formula hailed by Ottawa Superintendent Jeanne Stroh as a huge step for students. The plan would increase state funding to about 194 million in the first year and 100 million in the second, with the Supreme Court yet to rule. Stroh expects the court to review the bill piece by piece and move forward, while district officials plan to use new money to lower class sizes and raise staff pay. The Ottawa board meets Monday to discuss boundary changes and five new hires as part of the plan.
