Water plan meeting set for Lawrence library

Corps cleaning lake flood areas ongoing at several parks

Ottawa considers building fee hikes amid rate comparison

City commissioners studied rates in Augusta Chanute Coffeyville Junction City Merriam Newton Parsons Winfield and Median finding Ottawa’s proposed fees lower on average for both commercial buildings and office space. The plan would raise permits from 160 to about 900 for a 7 780 square foot office and from 4135 to 13000 for a 178 000 square foot Wal Mart size project. Lou Atherton urged a gradual phase in five years. Commissioner Ramsey supported phased increases while Mayor Matthews backed higher rates to ease Ottawa residents tax burden. Staff was asked to estimate general fund savings from the higher fees.
