Poor Choice Of Words Limits Law

A 1963 Kansas law to curb justice of the peace powers will have limited effect. The attorney general says the wording excludes counties with existing county courts, which now number 74, leaving only future counties subject to the measure. Franklin County already has a county court since 1951, so the new law would not affect its justice of peace court.
