Plan Would Ease Marriage Tax Says Reagan Proposal
The plan eases the marriage penalty for more than 15 million working couples without eliminating it. It also offers targeted relief for savers, retirement investors, estate heirs, expatriate workers, R&D investing firms, and oil landowners. The package aims to cut personal tax rates 25 percent over three years and provide business relief via accelerated depreciation. The penalty relief begins Jan 1 1982, with a two year phase in, and would halve the penalty on average.
