Simple Leaf A Very Complex Living Center

Beauty Of Thistle Misleading
The Musk Thistle looks attractive but harms pastures as a single bloom can sprout thousands of new plants. Livestock avoid it, reducing pasture load. With four-foot roots these plants deplete soil moisture and nutrients, starving grasses within two years. Rebuilding soil after killing thistles takes time. Chemical control is cheaper than pasture losses, and Chemical 2, 4-D can be bought at half price via the Noxious Weed Department in the Court House basement.

Franklin County farmers are urged to monitor fields, with control guided by the 1969 Kansas Insect Control Recommendations.
