Pick Your Own Strawberry Patch Brings Charm to Kansas Farm
In Nashville Kansas an acre patch near a shelter belt hosts customer self pick strawberries. Bill Hudson and Gilbert Kahmeyer diversified with five varieties and plan to grow sweet potatoes next year. An irrigation system powered by an old tractor feeds plants mulched with wheat straw to prevent sand splash and cold damage. They anticipate about 1000 dollars in revenue this season and expect two more bearing years.
