US Flexing Muscles Of Gold

Washington AP reports the United States has become nearly self sufficient in gold, curbing world price levels from about 199 to 165 an ounce. Treasury stockpile around 276 million ounces worth roughly 45.5 billion supports planned June 30 auctions of 500000 ounces, with further sales possible. Officials say reduced U.S. import needs and weaker demand for gold in jewelry and industry also weigh on prices.
