County Forced To Hasten Zoning Decision By City Plan

County Commissioners, prompted by a letter from the City Planning Commission signed by J W Grogan and City Clerk Orlin Smith, consider peripheral zoning up to three miles outside the city. The letter, dated Wednesday, urges a comprehensive plan for land beyond the city limits and suggests zoning until regulations align with statutes. County official Lee C Nichols called the move surprising as two townships Harrison and Lincoln pursue township zoning. A previously discussed five mile radius around Interstate 35 faces questions after a legal opinion restricting such zoning. No timetable set for a decision.
