Maryville Missouri reports that Dale Hamann, 25, of Round Lake Minnesota, spent 16 hours in the trunk of his car amid 90 degree heat. Police say initial report claimed two men locked him in at gunpoint but Hamann later admitted he locked himself in during a period of despondency. FBI assisted in questioning. no charges filed, he was held overnight for further inquiry.

Nearly 100 of an expected 130 cars have signed up for the Second Annual Lake Garnett Grand Prix to be staged July 2 to 4. Cars are split into seven displacement classes from 500 to over 5,000 cc, each with production and modified divisions. Races cover 10 16 and 30 laps on a 2.8 mile sea horse course with July 2 inspection and registration. Trophies go to top finishers per class based on entry counts. special trophies awarded for the 30 lap Grand Prix. Event falls under the Kansas City region of the Sports Car Club of America.
