Lakeside Players Dream Builds Vassar Junction Barn Theater
The Lakeside Players, a 25 to 30 member summer troupe, work at the Vassar barn to finish a promenade stage and back access as they transform the site into Vassar Junction. Co owners Veda and Bruce Rogers aim to create an artist community with railroad car structures looping the theater and a Whippoorwill Showboat on Lake Pomona. Actors and musicians from Topeka, Wichita, Manhattan, Lawrence, Baldwin, Williamsburg, St. Louis, and Wyoming converge, many hired through Kansas theater auditions, and residents share duties from cooking to sewing as they prepare for the June 6 opening and a fall 79 completion.
