Six area high school athletes earned top finishes at the state track meet in Wichita. Central Heights soph Marissa Cox was runner-up in girls 3A discus at 126-4. Kayla Schwab placed third in shot put at 39-11.5. Wellsville’s Madison Chambers was fourth in the 200m at 26.86 seconds. Central Heights’ Russell Hampton took sixth in boys shot put at 49-0. Anderson County’s Paige Rockers finished seventh in girls 4A triple jump at 34-8.5 and Monica Wuertz tied for seventh in high jump at 5-0.

Ottawa University senior Eric Cordell earned NAIA honorable mention after an 8-5 record with a 2.33 ERA and 107 strikeouts. He posted four shutouts and 34 straight scoreless innings, setting a single season school record for strikeouts while leading in appearances, innings pitched, and strikeouts in OU history and signing with the River City Rascals of the Frontier League.
