Interim leader named in Iraq in U S backed move
Ghazi Mashal Ajil al-Yawer was named president of Iraq's interim government after the Americans backed a different candidate. The Governing Council dissolved to allow the new leadership to take over immediately while the U S run the country until sovereignty passes on June 30. Iyad Allawi announced a 30 member cabinet as talks on foreign force status begin soon.

Bomb blasts rattle central Baghdad near PUK offices
A car bomb exploded in central Baghdad outside the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan offices near the Green Zone, killing at least three and wounding twenty as ambulances arrived and U.S. forces kept crowds back. Memorial Day Services Honor Local Veterans at Highland Park
