Franklin County commissioners plan a 7 p m meeting in the courthouse basement to discuss housing the Franklin County Educational Opportunity Center at the former Crestview Nursing Home at 1140 W Seventh Street Terreace. Residents near Crestview requested the meeting to weigh the move from the mental health building basement, which will free space for the expanded program.

The race follows a decade of conservative gains that culminated in Abrams succeeding David Miller as party leader.

A 6-year-old Edwardsville girl, Torshon Lowell, drowned at a Westminster Inn pool in Lawrence after being left unattended by her mother and uncle. She was found in the pool about 10 minutes after last seen and died at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Police and fire officials investigated.
