Poll finds support for pact on global warming

Arafat undergoes brain clot surgery in Jordan

PLO chairman Yasser Arafat, 62, had surgery at King Hussein Medical Center to remove brain clots from a plane crash in the Libyan desert. He was conscious and in stable condition after a 90 minute operation by Jordanian doctors.

Osawatomie youths killed in car train crash near city

Three Osawatomie High School students Alvin C Rayl 18 Melinda Renick 14 and Misty Ruse 14 died when their two door car hit the side of a Union Pacific freight engine at a rural Miami County crossing on 375th Street near K 7. Passenger Kathy Phifer 14 survived with serious head injuries and was taken to KUMC in Kansas City Kan. Autopsies planned. alcohol involvement not yet known. The train carried about 100 cars and derailed none.

Serbs vow to fight on amid sanctions and siege

Sporadic fighting and shelling continued in Bosnia Herzegovina and neighboring Serbia as international sanctions widen. Major General Bozidar Stefanovic vowed the Yugoslav air force would repel any attack, while a U.N. cease fire aimed to begin at 6 p.m. local time amid questions about enforcement and potential intervention. The Security Council imposed an oil embargo and trade ban, cutting air links, though food supplies remain allowed.
