Local seniors reject new Medicare discount drug cards
An independent Kaiser Family Foundation analysis finds the new Medicare discount drug cards offer savings but many local seniors prefer other programs. The study notes widespread confusion from more than five dozen cards and limited enrollment, with some seniors seeing better benefits from veterans discounts or other free prescription plans. The cards promise about 25 percent average savings, with mail order options up to a third cheaper. however, Internet pharmacies and VA or Canadian prices also affect choices. The administration plans electronic signups to ease enrollment while comparing with preexisting cards remains unclear.

A Netherlands study shows MRI screening detects about twice as many tumors as mammography for high risk women, but costs and higher biopsy rates limit use for average risk.
