Evidence may challenge FBI on Branch Davidian fire
Texas Rangers may cast doubt on the U S governments claim it used no incendiaries when moving on the Branch Davidian compound near Waco. The 1993 fire killed David Koresh and about 80 followers. Investigators had said sect members started the blaze, but a 1997 documentary researcher suggests the evidence could contradict that. Over 12 tons of material from the disaster resides in Waco. The Ranger probe underpinned the 1994 trial where eight Branch Davidians were convicted of manslaughter and weapons charges.
