Sacajawea Named for New Dollar Coin Circulation
Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin accepted a citizen panel recommendation to place Sacajawea on a 2000 dollar coin. The decision follows committee support for showing Liberty as a Native American woman, with Rubin overruling objections from a senior Republican sponsor. The coin will resemble the Anthony dollar in size but will be gold colored with a different edge.
