Wall Street Mixed as Investors Gauge Stability After Monday Drop
Wall Street opened with mixed orders in nervous trading as traders assessed stability after Monday's sharp selloff. The Dow fell 1.40 to 1772.50 at noon while decliners outpaced advancers two to one. Volume stood at 58.65 million shares. UAL rose 1 percent to 52. Delta gained 1 to 4.24, TWA climbed 4 to 17.54, Pan Am up 5 percent. Safeway led NYSE active list, down 4 to 65 and 1/2.
