Kansas Highway Patrol seeks funds for non patrol duties
In Topeka the Legislative Budget Committee endorsed a plan to add 250000 dollars next year to the Kansas Highway Patrol for non patrol tasks. The money would pay troopers to protect and chauffeur the governor and conduct investigations outside patrol jurisdiction. The panel also reviewed a bill placing the patrol superintendent in command of all law enforcement during civil unrest or disasters. Col William Albott said the move was drafted with the committee and research staff at request but not initiated by the patrol.
