Kansas leaders clash over funding for large future transportation plan
Governor Miller backs protecting the transportation investment while officials brace for a smaller program than before. Morris doubts approval of billions in new spend, citing funding gaps and reluctance to raise taxes. Parkinson urges broad collaboration, citing 415 million annual needs from a Sebelius task force to maintain a 10 000 mile system. Federal stimulus supports ongoing projects, but state revenues fell, funding cuts hit the Transportation Department, and toll roads are discussed.
