Kali E. Meeks, granddaughter of Opene Silvey, earns Scripps Howard and Garth Reeves Chair scholarships for 1995 96 at Florida A&M University where she will study photography in the journalism school. A Williamsville High School graduate, she made dean’s honor roll both sophomore semesters and interned with the Hendersonville Times-News after a NYT Regional group internship. Lisa Patterson of Olathe, named a United States National Award winner and All American Scholar by the U S Achievement Academy, will appear in national yearbooks. Ron Miller told commissioners progress on Colorado Road repairs between Pomona and Williamsburg. Three miles completed this year and the first coat of chip and seal on another stretch. Wellsville school district proposes mill levy increases
The Wellsville district plans a 1.76 mill increase in the local option budget LOB to offset reduced state aid from 53 to 44 percent. Total LOB funding shifts from 107 382 state aid of 202 608 to an estimated 89 743 of 203 963, funded by higher property taxes. Assessed district valuation rises to 18 856 058, with each mill worth about 18 856. Williams argues new property must pay taxes too.
