NAIA drug policy tested by UT officials and NAIA heads
Ottawa University athletic director Glenn Percy and President Wilbur Wheaton say they will wait and see as the NAIA adopts a sweeping drug education and screening policy. The plan requires all 480 member colleges to submit a philosophy statement by Jan 1 1987 and to screen athletes by Jan 1 1988 with annual reports due by May 31, while stressing education on illegal drugs alcohol and tobacco.

NAIA Drug Policy Remains Vague for Small Colleges
Wheaton and OU officials describe the NAIA ruling as extremely vague with no official guidelines. They expect screening could be a questionnaire, with potential drug testing costing athletic budgets. Local leaders hope ECAC or District 10 bodies craft a consistent policy while awaiting NASA clarification.
