Trade deficit improves as exports rise amid dollar decline
The Commerce Department reported the U S trade deficit narrowed to 1.6 billion dollars in June after a record 12.1 billion dollars in exports. Imports fell 2 percent to 13.7 billion, with oil and steel down, led by strong overseas sales of aircraft and autos. The currency slide fuels price competitiveness but risks inflation. In Tokyo, the dollar fell below 200 yen, closing around 195.05, as tourists got about 192.90 yen per dollar.
