Damage Suit Filed Over Oil Lease in Wichita
A. Goodman filed a $1,500 damage suit in District Court against W. M. and Earl McIlvain doing business as M and M Production Co. He claims they sold him a one half interest in an oil lease in Franklin County for $1,000 and received $500. Goodman alleges the McIlvains fraudulently claimed two wells on the lease were producing to demand the remaining $500, seeking $500 real damages and $1,000 punitive damages.

Investigators comb the Mojave Desert for clues to a missing passenger, S F Binstock, a 62 year old jeweler from North Hollywood, after a loud blast and a plane’s forced landing near George Air Force Base. The missing man was last seen entering the aircraft’s washroom before Las Vegas departure.

Kansas Education Survey Plan Faces Delay
May Balk At School Survey committee meeting here in Topeka, Bedey may decide against immediate survey for Kansas educational needs. D F N Guild states committee will outline problems and costs to present to the 1958 legislative session. 1957 legislature ordered an educational survey with $50,000. Some members doubt the appropriation enough for a thorough survey and prefer avoiding a quickie study. In Harper, Alfred Leo King 14, who admitted killing 87 year old Mrs Annie Shields, was sent for psychiatric treatment. Richard Dean Stanley 15, charged with escaping five times, was committed to the county jail after both fled a school picnic and were later captured in Chicago.

Postpone Hearing On Dr Swanson In Civil Service Case
A civil service hearing for Dr. Carl A. B. Swanson, former state parole agent, has been postponed indefinitely. The hearing was set for July 31 but was continued because one of Swanson's attorneys is ill, with Swanson earlier ruled to have severed employment for failure to accept a transfer from Pagedale City to Wichita.

Police Chase Ends In Jam
Police pursued two youths identified as Donald Vess, 17, of East Liverpool Ohio, and Melvin Carty, 18, of Salem Indiana, who had escaped from Ft. Crowder Missouri. They stole five cars across Missouri Kansas and Oklahoma before a wreck left their vehicle jammed between a tree and a utility pole. Vess was hospitalized with a back injury and Carty is held in the county jail.
