Belcher Leads Royals Past Twins for Solid Win

Tim Belcher pitched seven strong innings to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins. It was KC’s first win in nearly a month for a starting pitcher and only their third in 21 games, part of a difficult season after firing manager Bob Boone. Belcher improved to 9-9 as KC snapped a five-game Twins streak and built a brief, hopeful run in an otherwise tough AL Central race. The Royals staged a second-inning surge with six one-out hits, scoring four runs off LaTroy Hawkins, while rookie Ryan Long drove in a run for his second career RBI. Frank Rodriguez allowed three hits in 5 2-3 relief innings for the Twins before Belcher left with the lead intact.
