Partisanship Is Not The Answer Declares Lyndon
Lyndon Johnson, addressing the 55th annual Governors Conference at the formal state dinner, urged that partisanship cannot solve civil rights. He called for a responsible American answer achieved by all levels and people. Democrats urged swift action, pushing civil rights with a 38-3 conference vote and reshaping the nine member executive committee to cooperate with the President and federal agencies. The move aimed to outpace Republican leaders and prevent a filibuster as Democrats pressured for strong civil rights action.

A Parasol Shelter For Birds At Paul Archer Home
Robin Archer and his mother at 1021 Hickory report a pair of cardinals nesting in a bush outside their living room window. After they placed an open parasol over the nest the parent birds resumed feeding. The mother bird once fed a grasshopper to a young, removing the rear legs before offering it. The hatchlings now perch nearby while the parents continue to feed them.
