William Francis Conner 39 of Centerville died Saturday July 18 1998 northwest of Parker. Funeral services were held July 20 at Eddy Brichard Funeral Home Osawatomie burial in 96 Cemetery LaCygne. He was born April 11 1959 in Kansas City Missouri to William Gilbert and Evangeline Conner. He married Rose Brady Conner April 20 1996 in Centerville. Survived by wife parents son and five stepchildren among others. Memorials to Children’s Mercy Hospital. Marshall W Allen 84 of Ottawa died July 20 1998 at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Funeral July 24 at Dengel Son Mortuary burial Lane Cemetery. Born June 26 1914 in Jamesport Missouri to Albert Winters and Lillian Mae Brookshier Allen. Lived in Lane then Ottawa since 1938. Former Santa Fe Railroad conductor retired 1974 after 34 years. Baseball player and coach in Ottawa and Pomona. Survived by wife Minnie Johnson two sons a daughter and four grandchildren. Visitation tonight and Thursday with family time 7 to 8 pm. Ottawa American Legion Baseball fund to mortuary.

Alan Shepard dies at 74 first American in space

Alan Shepard, the first American in space and a lunar footpath walker, died at 74 near Monterey California. He flew Freedom 7 in 1961 on a suborbital mission and commanded Apollo 14 in 1971 advancing the United States space program.
