State law triples traffic ticket costs in effect
New state law raises speeding fines across grades, with $30 for 1 to 10 miles over the limit and higher scales thereafter. For 11 to 20 miles over, $30 plus $6 per mile. 21 to 30 miles, $90 plus $6 per mile. 31 miles and more could hit $180 plus $15 per mile. Ottawa and Franklin County officials note city fines may differ and court costs may apply. Police and prosecutors say higher costs aim to deter speeding, though impact varies by jurisdiction.
