Winter pickling advice from Carole Gridgey promotes choosing top quality produce and heat processing in a boiling water bath to prevent spoilage. Practical packing guidance covers layering, rolling, and protecting garments to minimize wrinkles, with steam methods to remove creases after travel.
Rock Creek H D U members discussed care and cleaning of appliances led by Mrs. Schoonover and Mrs. Nicholes. Twelve members and two guests attended. A Roadside Park picnic is planned for August 9. The Worthwhile group met at Mrs. Bidleman’s home with roll call on traveling safety and a picnic planned for August 8 at the Shelter House.
Friends of 4-H Night drew about 475 people for a picnic. The Kansas Boys Chorus impressed, and Director Kenneth Schulz earned praise for guiding boys aged 8 to 15. Members contributed with home cooking and helped with planning, setup, and cleanup.
The Westerner's 4-H Club runs two knitting classes with twenty girls from its thirty two members. Phase one teaches basic skills including bind off garter stitch purl and cast on. Phase two covers advanced stitches as Mrs. Overholt wraps up four years as instructor. Completed pieces will be entered at the fair.
