Ottawa Seeks Limited Sewer Rate Increase Plan
City commissioners trimmed the proposed five year multi year sewer rate plan to three years limiting annual increases. The plan would allow staff to raise rates by 90 cents monthly over three years without prior approval while aiming to shore up the wastewater fund and avoid sharp customer hikes. Immediate billing would rise 3.24 dollars with a 1.75 dollar rise next year. The average Ottawa family currently pays about 21 dollars monthly. The measure excludes repayment on a 10 million state loan for the new plant.
