Wheat Poll Adds To Debate In Farm Poll Findings
Washington AP reports a new Agriculture Department wheat referendum survey shows limited effect on farm policy debate. A Minnesota group’s poll of 1,340 producers reveals 43.7 percent favor mandatory production limits, 39.1 percent oppose, and 17.1 percent undecided, with broader support for reducing production to balance demand and raise prices. The study, led by Mark Ritchie, argues the wording biases results toward higher prices, and suggests the referendum may not yield a clear victory for either side amid mixed political signals in Kansas and nationwide.

Greenhouse effect may boost crops say Kansas scientists
Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station researchers at Kansas State University report elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide can improve wheat and sorghum yields and water use efficiency. In chamber studies, sorghum grain rose from 78 to 124 bushels per acre as CO2 rose from 330 to 795 ppm, with bigger leaves and deeper roots, while no toxicity appeared. The study, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, runs through 1987 with $400,000 in funding.
