Cooking School For Cooks Yields Exciting Week
The 36 hour course conducted with USD 290 and the Kansas State Department of Education trained about 30 cooks from Ottawa and other cities in vocational baking. Bessie Coleman led instruction with Earline Foster present. Lessons covered bread, pies, cookies, quick breads, yeast breads, cakes and pastries, plus a home biscuit mix recipe for school lunches.

Kansas Quilts on Display July 20 22 at KU
The Kansas Quilt Symposium runs July 20 to 22 at the University of Kansas with nearly 100 quilts loaned from across Kansas. A special exhibit in the Kansas Union Big Eight Room, organized by the Kaw Valley Quilters Guild, includes paid public access and a 4 p.m. Friday demonstration. Free related displays across Lawrence include the Spencer Museum, Watkins Museum, Lawrence Arts Center, and Carrie Hall collection. Enola Gish notes quilts span ages 30 to 85 and reflect family heirlooms and vintages. about 540 people have registered from the U S and Canada.
