Franklin County considers large cattle barn for fairgrounds
The Franklin County Agriculture Society weighs a 100 by 170 foot cattle barn to house three basketball courts at the fairgrounds, with estimated cost $300,000. Plans by Skidmore and Associates of Ottawa show concrete or block sides, metal roof, large end doors, ventilation, winter heating, and a fenced livestock area. Funding options include grants from the Kansas Racing Commission and donations if matching funds are needed. The project requires committee support and debt avoidance, with public promotion planned at the Downtown Street Festival and fair booths in July 1922.
